I came to this novel relatively late; six years after its initial publication in French and subsequent translation to English for sale in the US and the UK. I have never been able to read a work of fiction about the attacks of September 11th, 2001. I start them - and most are very good - but can never seem to stick with the book after the first chapter or... This book was so eye opening for me. The story goes into horrifying detail about what it would be like to be trapped in the tower, through the heat, the smells, the panic; it all felt so real. This is quite possibly the most arrogant, pompous book I've ever read. How you can possibly make a book about the 9/11 attacks about you I have no idea but this book managed it and good god I did not enjoy it. What else to write about? The only interesting subjects are the ones that are taboo. We have to write what is forbidden. I could go on about how great this novel is but, first of all, it's 9/11 and second, I guess that much can be deduced by the opening line. You know how it ends: everybody dies. If... I read several reviews comparing this book to Ian McEwan's Saturday and Jonathan Safran Foer's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. All address September 11 or its aftermath in some way. I planned to read all three. I got through Windows and Saturday, but could not get past chapter one of Extremely Loud. This book was published in France well over a year before the translation was available in the U. S. It caused quite an uproar, undeservedly in my opinion. What I find most interesting about... This was: a very good (but imperfect) book. It does some cool things with form- one chapter for every minute from when the plane hit the first tower to when it collapsed. It has a compelling critique of capitalism and US Imperialism that suddenly goes soft at the end - but perhaps thats partly excused because of when it was published (relatively soon after the attacks) The ending is bad and kind of hokey. Still, I highly recommend it. I'm still not quite sure what I think about this book. The chapters run minute by minute, and alternate between the thoughts of the gentleman who is trapped in the north tower with his young boys, and the thoughts of the Author. I found this a bit distracting. That being said, this book managed to both break my heart, and make me chuckle. Not an easy feat considering the subject matter! I'm glad I read this, it's very different. The idea I liked and found in this book: the break in the life of generation. Generation of 50-a, 60-s, 80-s, 90-s. All of them have their own story. It form their personality, it makes them to be different. What is the break of 2000 generation? Does the collapse of American world contributed to the change of our picture of the world. I amnt sure. less offended by the subject matter (recreating last hour of 9/11 atop WTC) or even the jokey tone - than the piss-poor quality of the prose itself this is a really shitty book, irrespective of its 'transgressive' nature more evidence that the degeneration of the Arts is pandemic (Windows won the Prix Interallie) This book is an unique addition to the dozens of things written on 9/11. It is different- I like it. It is written from two very different people who live countries apart and I think this is what makes it stand apart from other things I've read. It is interesting that the author puts in his own opinions here and there. Sometimes it's a bit unnecessary and a bit a whole, though, nice! One must be shameless to write such a book. Fell in love with this book, I found that the author did a great job of getting into the characters' heads and portrayed the events quite realistically as if we(the readers)were there witnessing the horrors with our own eyes and smelling our own flesh burning. After the attack, I was forced to have to go back into the city just blocks away from ground zero. The smell was unreal. The air was thick with pain and sorrow. human body is amazing the and will to press on was also in the air. You also feel like one of the lucky ones to have survived. You do ask yourself why did I survive and they did not but that feeling is fleeting as well.

I've only stumbled upon this video, a few minutes ago, and really wish I had found it matter. I was one of an estimated 10,000 strong crowd, who joined together in Liverpool, earlier this evening (Monday 1st August 2016) to hear Jeremy Corbyn speak.I have always voted Labour, but at the age of 50, I have joined The Labour Party, purely because of the inspiration of Mr Jeremy Corbyn. This was my first political rally, but I very much doubt it will be my last. Finally, there is someone who thinks as we do! Finally, there is someone honest, decent, reliable and down to earth, who says it like it is. And the vast majority of Liverpool, it seems, is right behind him! Thank you to Mr Piers Corbyn, for his insight into these matters - and you may be heartened to learn, that, at tonight's rally, the name of Tony Blair was met by the sound of 10,000 scousers booing in unison!Here's to the long-awaited revolution in modern British politics. I always wondered why the British would leave all they know to live here, as I've always wanted to live in England. I don't always agree with you Mark, and being a socialist at heart, I'm never going to. However, I can see where you are going with this and broadly speaking I agree. Plus I haven't been involved with ANY protest movement that hasn't been co-opted in some way or other. BUT, but, but. whilst there may not be genuine climate change, there is a problem with pollution. We do need to find greener ways to live. The trouble with that is, that when individuals actually DO IT, the councils always get in the way. People who build hobbit houses with composting toilets and so on, always seem to be hassled. As usual, they want everyone to do it their way, the state's way. We also need to get beyond left and right and blaming everything on Marxism. Those at the top aren't Marxists or anything else in particular, just exploiters.

This guy is alive today because he decided to change his shirt. You don't know which decisions end up being the big ones. They all matter.
